Recently, placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) has been suggested as a tumour marker in patients with seminomas (S), since elevated serum levels of PLAP were found with high frequency in these patients. The present immunoperoxidase study of 33 testicular germ cell tumours was undertaken to localize PLAP in the various types of these tumours as well…

A correlative, histologic and cytologic study of seven cases of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma and chromosome analysis using the G-banding technique (in case 1) is presented. The histologic pattern was characterized by pseudo-alveolar structures, separated by fibrous septa. Primitive, dark, round cells predominated, but differentiated rhabdomyoblasts were found in all cases, and so were multi-nucleated giant cells.…
Five new small cell carcinomas (SCC) cell lines and a large cell carcinoma (LCC) cell line were established from human lung cancers. The SCC cell lines had, as a group, common phenotypic properties which distinguished them from non-SCC cell lines. However, the studies also revealed a considerable biological heterogeneity among the individual SCC cell lines.…
The cellular DNA pattern in 66 colo-rectal adenocarcinomas was studied by means of flow-cytometric DNA analysis. The degree of ploidy and the proportion of cells in S-phase were related to the clinical stage according to Dukes' classification and to the histological differentiation. Multiple cell populations were found in about 60 per cent of the tumours…
In 13 200 consecutive gastroscopies polyp-like lesions were found in 454 patients and of these 425 were examined histologically. Tumours other than polyps were excluded and there remained 357 cases which were divided in four groups: adenoma (8%), hyperplastic polyp (34%), foveolar hyperplasia (21%) and inflammatory polyp (36%). Transitional forms between different groups were seen…
