A novel materials-selection procedure has been developed and implemented in software. The procedure makes use of Materials Selection Charts: a new way of displaying material property data; and performance indices: combinations of material properties which govern performance. Optimisation methods are employed for simultaneous selection of both material and shape.

Dielectric-barrier discharges (silent discharges) are non-equilibrium discharges that can be conveniently operated over a wide temperature and pressure range. At about atmospheric pressure electrical breakdown occurs in many independent thin current filaments. These short-lived microdischarges have properties of transient high pressure glow discharges with electron energies ideally suited for exciting or dissociating background gas atoms…
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) imaging of biological cells typically involves the creation (and subsequent analysis) of 3-dimensional (3D) data sets, where at each scan position the full spectrum is recorded. This allows one to later process the data in a variety of different approaches, e.g., by spectral region of interest (ROI E ) summation with or…
This paper is presents a concise review of regional climate modeling, from its ensuing stages in the late 1980s to the most recent developments. A tremendous progress has been achieved in improving the performance of regional climate models, which are currently used by a growing research community for a wide range of applications, from process…
