A mathematical model is developed to predict the orientation distribution function of rigid fibers in concentrated suspensions. The model contains a phenomenological term to account for interactions between fibers. Predictions of the model are tested against experiments in simple shear flow, using suspensions of nylon monofilaments in silicone oil. The results compare favorably for steady-state…

Glass fibers reinforced polymer composites have been prepared by various manufacturing technology and are widely used for various applications. Initially, ancient Egyptians made containers by glass fibers drawn from heat softened glass. Continues glass fibers were first manufactured in the 1930s for high-temperature electrical application. Nowadays, it has been used in electronics, aviation and automobile…
This review article describes the recent developments of natural fiber reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites. Natural fibers are low-cost, recyclable, and eco-friendly materials. Due to eco-friendly and bio-degradability characteristics of these natural fibers, they are considered as strong candidates to replace the conventional glass and carbon fibers. The chemical, mechanical, and physical properties of natural fibers…
The behavior of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP)-confined concrete in circular columns has been extensively studied, but much less is known about concrete in FRP-confined rectangular columns in which the concrete is nonuniformly confined and the effectiveness of confinement is much reduced. This paper presents a simple design-oriented stress-strain model for FRP-confined concrete in rectangular columns.…
Cellulose nanofibers are obtained from various sources such as flax bast fibers, hemp fibers, kraft pulp, and rutabaga, by chemical treatments followed by innovative mechanical techniques. The nanofibers thus obtained have diameters between 5 and 60 nm. The ultrastructure of cellulose nanofibers is investigated by atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The cellulose nanofibers…
