R factors in Rietveld analysis: How good is good enough?

Brian H. Toby · 1 Mar 2006

The definitions for important Rietveld error indices are defined and discussed. It is shown that while smaller error index values indicate a better fit of a model to the data, wrong models with poor quality data may exhibit smaller values error index values than some superb models with very high quality data.

The Powder Diffraction File: a quality materials characterization database

Stacy Gates-Rector, Thomas N. Blanton · 6 Nov 2019

The ICDD's Powder Diffraction File ™ (PDF ® ) is a database of inorganic and organic diffraction data used for phase identification and materials characterization by powder diffraction. The PDF has been available for over 75 years and finds application in X-ray, synchrotron, electron, and neutron diffraction analyses. With entries based on powder and single…

The HighScore suite

Thomas Degen, Mustapha Sadki, Egbert Bron et al. · 30 Oct 2014

HighScore with the Plus option (HighScore Plus) is the commercial powder diffraction analysis software from PANalytical. It has been in constant development over the last 13 years and has evolved into a very complete and mature product. In this paper, we present a brief overview of the suite focusing on the latest additions and its…

Whole powder pattern decomposition methods and applications: A retrospection

A. Le Bail · 1 Dec 2005

Methods extracting fast all the peak intensities from a complete powder diffraction pattern are reviewed. The genesis of the modern whole powder pattern decomposition methods (the so-called Pawley and Le Bail methods) is detailed and their importance and domains of application are decoded from the most cited papers citing them. It is concluded that these…

RIR - Measurement and Use in Quantitative XRD

C. R. Hubbard, Robert L. Snyder · 1 Jun 1988

Abstract The Reference Intensity Ratio (RIR) is a general, instrument-independent constant for use in quantitative phase analysis by the X-ray powder diffraction internal standard method. When the reference standard is corundum, RIR is known as I/I c ; These constants are collected in the Powder Diffraction File (1987), can be calculated, and can be measured.…

Powder Diffraction template — frequently asked questions

How do I write a paper in the Powder Diffraction format?
In DocuGuru you write your manuscript in a normal editor — no LaTeX setup required — and select the Powder Diffraction template. When you export, DocuGuru compiles the paper into the official Cambridge University Press format and hands you a submission-ready PDF along with the editable LaTeX source.
What reference style does Powder Diffraction use?
Powder Diffraction uses Numbered references, shown as numbered [1], [2] markers in the text. DocuGuru formats every in-text citation and the reference list in this exact style automatically. A reference appears like this: [1] A. Smith, B. Jones, and C. Lee, A representative article title, Powder Diffraction 12 (2023) 45–58.
Do I need to know LaTeX to submit to Powder Diffraction?
No. DocuGuru generates the null LaTeX class and compiles the PDF for you in the background, so you get a Cambridge University Press-ready Powder Diffraction document without writing any LaTeX. If you do want it, the LaTeX source is included in the export.
Can I import an existing draft into the Powder Diffraction template?
Yes. Paste or upload your current manuscript — Word, LaTeX, Markdown, or plain text — and DocuGuru reflows it into the Powder Diffraction format with correct headings, figures, tables, and numbered citations.
Who publishes Powder Diffraction?
Powder Diffraction is a multidisciplinary journal published by Cambridge University Press. DocuGuru's Powder Diffraction template matches Cambridge University Press's official submission format.
Can I export a submission-ready Powder Diffraction PDF?
Yes — DocuGuru produces a PDF built with the official Powder Diffraction template (the null class) that is ready to submit to Cambridge University Press, together with the matching LaTeX source files.
How much does the Powder Diffraction template cost?
You can start writing in the Powder Diffraction template for free. Exporting the final submission-ready Powder Diffraction PDF and LaTeX source is part of DocuGuru's paid plans — see the app for current pricing.
