AN INVESTIGATION OF POLYMORPHISM IN THE INTERLEUKIN‐10 GENE PROMOTER

David M. Turner, Denise Williams, David Sankaran et al. · 1 Feb 1997

Interleukin-10 (IL-10) has been described as an anti-inflammatory cytokine and B-cell proliferation factor and has been implicated in autoimmunity, tumorigenesis and transplantation tolerance. We have identified three single base pair substitutions in the IL-10 gene promoter and have investigated whether this polymorphism correlates with IL-10 protein production in vitro.

In vitroproduction of IFN-γ correlates with CA repeat polymorphism in the human IFN-γ gene

Vera Pravica, Argiris Asderakis, Chris Perrey et al. · 1 Feb 1999

The DNA sequence of the human IFN-gamma gene shows the presence of a variable-length CA repeat in the first intron of the gene. We investigated the allele distribution of this microsatellite region in 164 unrelated healthy individuals, and the association with interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) production. In vitro production of IFN-gamma showed a significant correlation with the…

Nomenclature for factors of the HLA system, 1996

J. G. Bodmer, Steven G. E. Marsh, E. D. Albert et al. · 1 Apr 1997

Recently a number of new genes have been identified within the HLA region including some whose functions are related to HLA Class I and II genes. The committee discussed what its strategy should be for the naming of these and further new genes. It concluded that the naming of such genes raised many new issues and that…

Cytokine gene polymorphisms and breast cancer susceptibility and prognosis*

Kelly-Ann Smith, Adrian C Bateman, Helen Fussell et al. · 23 Jun 2004

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the promoter regions of cytokine genes are associated with differential levels of cytokine expression. We hypothesized that these SNPs might influence breast tumour development and progression by affecting the efficiency of the antitumour immune response and/or pathways of angiogenesis. A total of 144 female breast cancer patients and 263 cancer-free…

Genotype frequencies of the +874T→A single nucleotide polymorphism in the first intron of the interferon‐γ gene in a sample of Sicilian patients affected by tuberculosis

Domenico Lio, Vincenzo Marino, Alberto Serauto et al. · 1 Oct 2002

In the light of the key role played by interferon (IFN)-gamma in the control of tuberculosis, in the present paper we have evaluated the distribution of the functional +874T --> A IFN-gamma single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in Sicilian patients affected by tuberculosis. Our aim was to determine whether there is an association between the TT…
